Crystal stair

Life for us hasn’t been a crystal stair.
It’s had tacks in it,
And splinters,
And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor—
Bare.
But all the time
We have been climbing on,
And reaching landings,
And turning corners,
And sometimes going in the dark
Where there has been no light.
So son, don’t turn back.
Don’t set down on the steps
Because you will find it’s hard.
For I am still going,
I am still climbing’,
And life for us hasn’t been a crystal stair.
